Colchester School of Gymnastics

report a very successful year

We hosted many competitions including our first invitational international with Malta.  We also entered in many competitions locally as well as further afield locations of Newcastle, Aldershot, Guildford and a weekend in the Isle of Man where we took a party of gymnasts, coaches, parents and judges.

The hospitality extended to us was superb as well as being a great experience, first class results were gained.

The club is very proud of all our 600 members dedicated work and determination that they have given to achieve the high standards which have been set.  The Club achieved Gym Mark, which is the kite mark of British Gymnastics along with being accredited with Club SX Gold.

We would like to express a special mention on the tremendous form of two highly skilled gymnasts George Chanarin and Eleanor Clifford who both achieved a National Ranking of 10th position, George exceeding his former Ranking by two from his previous year and retaining his position in the National Squad.

The Colchester School of Gymnastics whose members aiso travel from Braintree, Clacton, Sudbury, Halstead and surrounding villages would like to thank coaches, parents and all supporters without whom this would not have been possible.

A HUGE thank you to Steve for all his hard work putting together new cupboards for storing our Pre-School equipment.   This week saw the completion with doors being added.  However, this didn't go quite as smoothly as anticipated.  Steve decided to take his tools round the back of the gym in his car.   The photo's below tell the story!!!!!!

Borough awards

honour our

School success

THE best year of School competition success has been recognised by the borough with our gymnasts scooping no fewer than four awards at the town’s annual sports personality awards.  No other sport came close to matching our level of success.  Competitive awards against the best of the rest in Malta, Switzerland and the Isle of Man as well as in Essex gained the team award for our girls.

Grace Knightbridge,  part of the team and a competitor at both the British championships last year and participant in a gruelling weekend trial for the national squad, took the Under 18s female trophy.

Jessica Hill’s first year of regional competition which ended with a medal and her part in the team performance, captured the Under 14s female award.

Finally, Dave Schadek was named Coach of the Year.

HONOURED — Grace Knightbridge, Under 18 Female; Dave Schadek, Coach of the Year, Jessica Hill, Under 14 Female, all pictured on the presentation evening at Colchester Moot Hall.

DOING so well in the sports personality awards of Colchester Sports Council is important because it rates gymnastic performances against all the other sporting activities across the borough.

Other winners were top performers in the likes of swimming, sailing, rugby, football, orienteering, motorcycling, basketball, athletics, table tennis, triathlon, cycling, squash and cricket.

Organised by the Colchester Sports Council and sponsored by the Evening Gazette and its This is Essex website, the awards are the top local test of just how well your sport is doing in the eyes of others.

New Chairman Appointed

Kevin Hill, father of gymnasts Georgina and Jessica, is the new chairman of the school.. His post is one of a number of changes following the AGM in November.
